West Washington is excited to announce that our entire football program, 3rd through 12th grade will be practicing in Guardian Caps this year. Head Football Coach, Jeremy Lowery explains, “We are very fortunate to be able to offer the safety benefits of Guardian Caps to our entire football program. Our number one goal at West Washington is to provide a lasting positive experience in a safe environment for every kid that comes through our program. We are very appreciative to Orange County REMC for their generous donation to help make this vision a reality.
What are Guardian Caps? Guardian Caps are the leading soft shell helmet covers engineered for impact reduction. They bring a padded, soft-shell layer to the outside of hard-shell helmets. In 2020, the Guardian Cap was seen on multiple NFL teams for practices with data collection and lab testing showing a “statistically significant” improvement over bare helmets alone. In early 2022, the NFL owners announced the league would be mandating the use of Guardian Caps during the early part of 2022 training camp for all OL, DL, TEs, and LBs. The benefits of Guardian Caps include:
Reduces impact up to 33%
One size fits all for all helmet makes and models youth-adult
Pads blows to knees, hands, abdomen, etc. during practice
Attaches easy to itself without altering the helmet or transfer of liability
Dampens sound waves and vibrations removing the loud “crack” of the helmet
Protects helmet wear and tear
Reduces static heat up to 15-20°
With the wide array of benefits, it is easy to see why West Washington is thrilled to offer this technology to their Senator football program. “Our football program always wants to make sure our players have the safest equipment to protect them and we have now purchased Guardian Caps to protect every kid who plays football at West Washington from 3rd grade through high school. This should be comforting to parents to know our coaches are doing everything they can to prevent concussions to all the kids in our program,” shared Athletic Director, Darrin Russell.
HOW DOES THE OPERATION ROUND UP PROGRAM WORK?
Orange County REMC is proud to have the Operation Round Up program in place, which can easily direct funds to local groups and organizations that have a big impact and improve lives in our community. Orange County REMC members who participate in Operation Round Up allow their monthly electric bills to be “rounded up” to the next dollar. That spare change is placed in a community fund, overseen by a volunteer board of trustees. This volunteer board meets three times a year to review the requests for grants. Local community groups, non-profits, organizations, and individuals can apply.
