Each year we host the Annual Membership Meeting as a way to say “thank you” to our members, as well as conduct important cooperative business, including financial updates
and director elections. The theme for this year’s meeting was “Your Cooperative, Your Community.” As an electric cooperative, our business model is unique. We are not owned by a group of investors, we are owned by every person who receives electric service from Orange County REMC. That’s why we refer to you as “members” and not “customers.” The
annual meeting really is an event for you! We enjoy meeting you face-to face and helping you understand how decisions are made at the REMC, as well as for Orange County Fiber.
As usual, the annual meeting drew a large crowd with 473 registered guests and a total of 837 in attendance. Our guests enjoyed a fantastic meal served by Schnitzelbank Catering while Branded Bluegrass provided musical entertainment. Our youngest members stayed busy in the kids’ area that featured high energy bounce houses, crafts, a coloring contest and temporary tattoos by our talented employees. During the business meeting, incumbent
directors Randy Roberts and George Key were re-elected to represent Districts 3 and 7 respectively. In the only contested election, Thomas Lamb became the new District 4 director, winning the seat from incumbent Brett Busick. Lamb is a long-time resident of Orange County.
We wrapped up the meeting with our prize drawing. Every registered member who attended the meeting, and stayed for the duration of the event was eligible to win. The top cash prize winners were Hobbs Farm, $500 and Cane Creek Church, $1,000.
We would like to thank all the members who attended the meeting and express
our appreciation to the directors and employees who worked so hard to
make the event such a success.
