Orange County REMC is an electric power cooperative with a longstanding commitment to strengthening the communities our members call home. Because we’re focused on the future, supporting young people is one of our priorities. We want to prepare students to become the next generation of community leaders through various activities and scholarships.


We are looking for high school juniors and seniors to take part in this program that will allow participants to:

  • Be exposed to board governance and project management

  • Strengthen leadership skills and career development

  • Enhance communication skills

  • Build a portfolio for college admission

  • Provide a voice for their generation of the expectations of electric cooperatives



What is the Orange County REMC Student Board of Directors?

Being a member of the Orange County REMC Student Board of Directors is a distinguished opportunity to contribute to your community and build leadership skills for yourself, propelling you through your education and career. High school juniors and seniors will have interactive, hands-on experience with Orange County REMC, local businesses, and other high school students.



What do we look for in a Student Board member?

  • Interest in business administration, marketing, technology, operations, finance, etc.

  • Individuals willing to step up, take initiative, and complete tasks outside board meetings.

  • A willingness to participate in our community, a spirit of volunteerism, and extra-curricular activities.



What are the requirements of the Student Board?

The board will be involved in one community project and one fundraising project per school year along with regular monthly board meetings. Members who are selected for the Student Board as juniors will stay on the board through their senior year as well. All members must participate in the Student Board agreed-upon community service events, activities and projects, and attend the scheduled monthly board meetings. All student board members will be required to attend the annual meeting in June.

No more than 2 excused absences will be allowed per term to complete the program. Members will provide a voice for your generation of expectations of electric cooperatives. Members should be present with enthusiasm and a thirst for community and self-improvement. Student Board members must be able to provide their own transportation.



What are important board dates and events?

  • Monthly Student Board meetings are required and will take place throughout the year on a recurring date and time. All meetings will be the 4th Tuesday of every month from September until May with the exception of December, there will be no December meeting.

  • Members will also be asked to attend one Orange County REMC Board of Directors meeting to give an update on the student board.

  • Optional trips or activities may take place throughout the year as decided by the Student Board and Orange County REMC staff.

  • One community service event and one fundraising event per year.

  • Student Board members will be required to attend the Orange County REMC Annual Meeting the first Friday of June.



What do you get as a Student Board Member?

Orange County REMC Student Board Members who are selected will receive an Orange

County REMC logo polo shirt and those that meet or exceed all the requirements and

responsibilities will earn a $2,000 scholarship for completing two years of service.



You do NOT need to be an Orange County REMC member or Orange County Fiber

customer to apply.
